Sublime, organic and transcendent are just a few ways to describe the work of contemporary artist Jeff Koehn. His landscape paintings capture the warmth of an Indian summer, and his floral abstracts are as delicate as the subject. Koehn developed his technique of dry brush application after he transitioned from acrylic to oil. This technique results in an extraordinary finished work that is both complex and discernable. The characteristics of Landscape #3 include areas where the scratchiness of the brush stroke is evident as well as areas where the texture of the canvas bleeds through, both of which emphasize the raw beauty of his subject. Koehn studied pastels, oil and acrylic painting at the Art Institute of Colorado and cites Vermeer and John Singer Sargent among those who have influenced him, the former for his use of light, the latter his lush portraits.
