HOWARD CHURCH was born in Nebraska, near Sioux City, IA .During his lifetime he was a lithographer, painter and teacher. He received his BFA from Art Institute of Chicago; Masters and PhD from Ohio State University. His 1939 dissertation was on “Portrait Painting in a University Curriculum.” Howard Church was an art teacher at Morgan Park Military Academy, Morgan Park, IL, 1933-36; instructor at Vanderpoel Gallery, Ridge Park, IL, 1936-38. Most notoriously, Church was the head of Washburn College’s Art Department from 1940 until retirement.
