Quick Facts:

First Place-2016 Arti Gras, Leawood, Kansas

Denny grew up in the Kansas City area and always had the ability to draw, but not much desire to go along with it. In the late seventies Denny attended the Art Institute of Colorado, but living in Denver still didn’t leave much time or desire to concentrate on art, with golf to play and the Rocky Mountains right at his doorstep to ski on. Moving back to KC in “88” he dabbled in some pen and ink illustration for some local restaurants and Coca Cola USA. A 2002 back surgery that took away all the things Denny enjoyed, now gave him the time to find the desire for his art. After getting some pencil drawings in a local gallery, and seeing that most of the art were paintings, he realized that he must learn to paint. Denny chose watercolor, at the warning from others that it was the hardest of all mediums to learn. After studying with Tom Nelson, an instructor at the Kansas City Art Institute, Denny started painting in May 2008. 100 paintings or so later he is doing local shows and has paintings hanging in private collections from San Francisco to St. Louis. He has recently won his first award, third place for watercolors, in The Ward Parkway Mid Winter Art Fair 2010. A few weeks later he won his second award at the 14th annual Heartland Artist Exhibition.
